Setting & Concept
Mango House is a boutique-style luxury retreat located on Mahé Island in Seychelles, on the southwest coast in the Baie Lazare region. It’s perched along a sheltered bay called Anse Aux Poules Bleues, sometimes called “Bay of the Blue Chickens.” The property blends into its surroundings: lush tropical flora, rocky hillsides, ocean views, and a relaxed island ambience. It was once the residence of the Italian photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri; the hotel preserves that heritage in its art, design, and spirit of creativity and elegance.
Accommodation & Design
There are 41 rooms, suites, and villas. Each has ocean-oriented views, with floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies or terraces, and décor that evokes the natural beauty of Seychelles: soft blues, beiges, woods, natural stone. Some units are cliff-side, others beachfront. A number of villas or suites offer extra space, private plunge pools, or features aimed at families or small groups.
The style overall is “barefoot luxury” elegant yet relaxed. Common design elements include timber ceilings, wicker or natural materials, local artwork, and natural colour palettes that mirror the ocean, sky, and forest.
Dining & Food
Mango House offers multiple dining venues with different flavours:
• A Mediterranean/Italian-inspired restaurant (Muse) providing sharing-plates approach, fresh seasonal produce, relaxed lunches, and dinners.
• A Japanese restaurant (Azido) with sushi, sashimi, and char-grilled items, located near the beach/ocean edge for ambiance.
• Creole cuisine with local flavours (seafood, grilled meats, local ingredients) served in another restaurant (Moutya), offering a more rustic, authentic island feel.
• Poolside and bar options for lighter bites, cocktails, and casual dining, including a bar inspired by South Indian-Creole culture.
Wellness, Pools & Facilities
The resort has several pools, including:
• A main infinity pool overlooking the bay
• Additional pools (elevated deck, pool by the room or villa in some cases)
Wellness is a focus: a spa (Anpe Spa, meaning “At Peace”) offers treatments using local ingredients, locally trained therapists, and rooms with ocean views. Fitness centre is well equipped. There are also kid-friendly facilities and a range of water sports or excursions such as snorkeling, kayaking, maybe day trips to nearby islands.
